Honestly, I've been scrapbooking

I know this blogs been a bit slow - but I've been working on projects, been on vacation, and have had the kids home ALL DAY LONG! But I have been scrapbooking. Just finished two 100 page books. One for my mother-in-law and the other for a family friend. The European cruise book was quite a project so I gave out a WaHoo when it was done - and here's a few of my favorite pages. I really liked making pages with pictures as part of the background - or by cutting out part of the picture. I don't usually scrapbook that way - but I think it worked perfect for this book.
The other book I just finished was a wedding book for a darling couple - Allie & McKay. I used my 100 Black QPs (which you can buy for a buck - orignal post HERE.) Of course they had fabulous pictures taken - so it was easy fun to plug them into the QPs. And that's what I've been up to.

I have actually been scrapbooking. I'm working on a 100 page book for my mother-in-law. They took an amazing river cruise a few years back and I'm about 1/4 done with the book. They all have the same background and basic designs - because I think that puts the focus on the pictures more. So here'a few layouts. I was hoping to do some QPs for you - but when I look at them without the pictures they are just too basic. I'll have to come up with something else for a QP.

I really have been doing some scrapbooking -but my last two posts have been non-scrapping. Just wanted to reach out to more women who may also like these.

This past Christmas I got nail shields from Jamberry Nails. I was a little apprehensive to believe they would do all they say. I'll be honest, I expected them to be like the stickers I used when I was a kid. But it's been two weeks since I applied my blue giraffe toes and I love them! It's winter and my toes are usually covered up when I'm out in public - but I have still received several compliments on my cute toenails. I was surprised that they are $15 for one set... until I applied them myself. If you trim them as close to your nail size as possible you can get 3-4 wears out of one sheet. So it makes it about $4 for nearly 4 weeks of cute nails. Well worth it. I think these things are really going to catch on. They are amazing. If you decide to get some for yourself I would recommend watching the "how to apply" video before hand. There are instructions included with your product but I found the video to be most helpful.

Baked Pumpkin Seeds

This is not scrapbook related ... just some good old recipe sharing! For those of you who have not yet carved your pumpkins ... don't throw the seeds away!! This is the recipe for baking seeds that I have been enjoying since I was a kid - and they are downright yummy (and easy).you'll need:
2 cups seeds (give or take)
3 TBS melted butter
1 tsp salt
1 tsp Worcestershire sauceSepereate seeds and guts as thoroughly as possible. Boil seeds in salted water for 10 mins. Strain seeds and combine with the salty-buttery-worsh mixture. Coat seeds. Spread on cookie sheet and bake at 225 for about 2 hours. (I know it's a long time - it just needs to dry them out).

rar. unzipping

I've heard back from a couple people with problems unzipping my rar. files. Sorry, that's just the zip program that came with my computer. I would rather not change things ... so may I suggest that if you want to download the rar. files I've created that you search for a free download that will allow you to do that. When I googled "opening rar files" several options appeared. If I hear of more problems in the future I might consider changing - but for now I'm happy with the program that I use. Once again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Rocket Birthday Party Freebie

My son just turned 5 and this year we had a "rocket" party. It was actually setup more as a NASA party, but since he doesn't know what NASA is - it soon became a rocket party. We shot aliens with a nerf gun, colored space pictures (black paper with colored chalk) and shot off stomp rockets (a must have). The cake turned out fabulous, if I do say so myself. It was a fun and easy cake to make. You can find the original instructions HERE. I did piece a few pieces together for the fins, I didn't want them to be triangles as it shows in the instructions. And if you haven't ever made a cake that you have to cut apart - freeze it first and it were be a piece of cake (I know, cheesy - but that's really how ya do it).

My ideas for this party transpired from an amazing party showcased HERE. You have to check it out - it's quite the party. A bit over the top for a manageable birthday party for me and my life, but inspiring nonetheless. This is what I did for invites:

All the boys got awards at the end of the party.
And I had so much fun making these Thank You cards.

If you are interested in doing a party like this...I have a few things to help you get started. This download includes a blank invite, png thank you cards so you can add your own space rangers' pictures, a certificate of completion, an 8x10 full of aliens for printing and shooting, and a rocket ship coloring page (3 to a page, I used this to put on their take-home bags). Invite and Thank You's are 4x6, so just have them printed as pictures - super easy.

I used a kit called "Where the Heart Is" from Grandma's Templates. I know, kinda random to use as a zoo layout. But I'm a fan of earthy tones. Chores, Chores, Chores

Not a scrapbook freebie - but some good ideas...

I have tried several chore charts with my kids. I'm a big believer in kids doing chores and having responsibilities around the house. They make their own beds and clean their own rooms from about the time that they are 3. Now it doesn't always look great, and every so often I go in a do a good clean - but I want them to do their best and take responsibility for their things. So I've started a new "reward" program with Paige that has been fabulous. A friend gave me the idea and then I adapted it for our needs. We call it DOING DOLLARS. Paige earns printed dollars for doing her choirs or for doing things like being ready for school by 8:00. Then she is able to use those dollars to buy rewards. Below is the sheet that hangs on that back of her door.

This is the dollar I designed. She was so excited to have the CTR logo on it - which stands for Choose the Right.

My sister also just did this darling choir chart for her toddler. I had a similar one when Paige was young, but I love that this is on a magnet board and so she uses magnets to mark off when she has finished something. In the middle are some pictures of other choirs that she can choose to do - since they like to help at that age.

So I thought I would offer my dollars to anyone else who may want to try this. I have them 14 to a sheet, so they are fairly small - which is perfect. Then I printed them in grey scale on some colored cardstock. This program has made school mornings 100% better - no joke. Paige gets up without complaining and gets going on the day. No more hounding her to hurry and brush her teeth because her friends are already waiting for her. Now she is ready with plenty of time to work on practicing her piano and such. Can't say enough about it. It's worked FABULOUSLY for us!

I don't plan on doing a lot of these, so I will not be offering the code because it has my account information inbedded in it.
